Welcome Back to my Blog!
I’m so thankful that you are here and if this is your first time, this is a place where I have to opportunity to share with you insights from a mother and photographer’s perspective about being a mom. This is a place where I get to open up to you about my journey and share some insight with you! Everyone’s journey is different and this is a safe place where we’ll get to discuss others’ experiences and words of encouragement through all of it.
As a mom, we all know the feeling of “they go up so fast!” The first few years of childhood is so fleeting that we sometimes we feel like we’re not savoring the moment enough. I want to share with you why documenting these years are so important for the whole family and some ways that you can start with a little surprise at the end.
What's so important about documenting?
When documenting, there is this mindset of intentionality to document what you want to remember. That could be the color of the sky, the smile on their face, or the simple action that is happening. Imagine this in your mind: You are walking on the beach with your whole family during sunset. The sky is full of all shades of red, orange and yellow and the waves are gently washing onto your foot as the sand rolls over your toes. Your 2 year old is running ahead picking up a shell they found on shore and coming back to show you. You hear laughter, small conversations and affirmations from your hubs to your children. How does that make you feel? Is this something you would love to look back on and remember how you felt in this moment? Being aware of the moment and your surroundings creates this mindset of the beauty in what’s happening, and that mindset is what will create the prompt to capture it.
Taking photos and videos is a huge part of my job as a photographer and when my clients see what they receive, there is such a huge sense of gratefulness because they have these memories to look back on.
So where can you start?
I know it seems kind of overwhelming where to start, but here are some different modes of documenting you could do!
- Take a photo
- Like they say, the best camera is the one on you! You could even intentionally bringing a different camera (i.e. Polaroid or a disposable camera) and create a photo album with prints. These photo albums become a tangible object to look back on and even share with your loved ones.
- Take a video
- Now that many social media platforms are moving towards video, this is a great way to create those Instagram Reels!Videos not only provide you with a visual of the moment, but it allows you to hear what happens in that moment. A complication of video clips can become this amazing montage of and event of portion in your life.
- Journal
- Some people would prefer to disconnect from technology for there memories, and that’s totally fine! Journaling opens up the opportunity to share in words what that moment looked, felt, or smelled like. It also allows for the capability of sharing your emotions, thoughts and opinions in that moment. Journaling personifies the moment through your point of view.
The options can be endless! There are also various resources that can be a guidance or prompt on what to document.
Documenting your life, or even events in your life allows us to put our memories into out of our heads to create something tangible to look back on. It supports us in being intentional in cherishing these amazing moments in our life so that we can pass it on to the generations after.
So I challenge you to find a way that fits for you, and try it out for a week!
And for all of you mommas who are pregnant, I have an extra challenge for you!
I’ll be announcing my new guide soon! This guide is all about intentional documentation during your pregnancy until your little one arrives. I’ll be announcing it soon so be on the lookout for it!
